25. Back to the tower
Back to the tower
33rd of Shar 358
Sleep last night was very difficult. I couldn't get the images of guts and blood out of my head. The smell of freshly spilled blood, the decapitated person, the bodies strewn around... it consumed my every sense for hours and hours until I fell asleep. After waking up, the rest of us got together at a table and discussed what we're doing next. We decided on going to check on General Faust and then head on our way to see Memory. Ferryman led us to the temple of war.
It was pretty quiet, lots of clerics. General Faust was there but Carmichael was nowhere to be seen. General Faust looks completely different then when I last saw him. His scar on his face was gone, his fingers are no longer prosthetics, even the white streak on his hair was gone. He looked like he was twenty years younger. This must be the result of some very powerful magic. Ferryman asked how he was feeling and he said he felt great but it will take some getting used to. After inquiring for more details, we were told they were about to send for us before they got attacked but this... Marufyr individual. He asked what remained of Slaughter and Ferryman said nothing was left but a crater, with Fathom adding on that his spirit remains. His blade is still left where we fought, General Faust said to not worry about it; he will get it himself. Fathom asked if the decapitated person had been resurrected. General Faust said the body has been preserved and Carmichael was taking it to the tower. We rushed to this place called the Underspire to catch up with him.
The Underspire was really beautiful. It was a dome made of glass and was really easy to find, being just a few hours travel from Hrorilad. We entered into the space and were met with a gallery filled with statues, models, and art. As we entered inside, we met a fairy girl who seemed to be the receptionist. She was short, but not as small as Erafinyr. She had pretty pink hair that faded into a blue, pink and blue wings, and pristine white robes with a golden trim. Fathom spoke up, asking where Carmichael was and said we were employed with the same people. He asked to meet with the mage who runs this place, Sinclair. She rushed us down the stairs, telling us in the process to keep our hands to ourselves and don't insult Sinclair.
How far we went down made sense when we arrived. The room was cylindrical and the walls were made of glass, with beyond the glass seeming to go on forever. It was so breathtaking. On the other side of the room sat who I guessed was Sinclair. They were very tall with long red hair and no arms. Closer to the middle of the room sat Carmichael, sitting next to a body.
An image of Sinclair appeared next to us, asking who we are. Fathom said we were here on the behest of the tower, hoping to return alongside Carmichael. He allows us to travel in here. Sinclairwas fixing something, I think for this room to be able to send people to a location. He confirmed this, saying this is his "travel room." He can use it to travel physically or through the panels on the wall. He notes it is working and says it was nice to meet us all. Before we have the chance to say anything more, the scenery changes. There is an image left in my eye of where we once were before it clears and we appear in a room in the tower.
We all headed downstairs to to first floor and we find Agabarya. He was surprised we are here in such short notice. He sends Carmichael upstairs after noting the headless person was the contact he sent to help us. Fathom catches him up, introducing him to Ferryman. After explaining, Fathom asked about our payment. He said he was going to give us what is equal to what we've done. We went above and beyond in his eyes. He urges us to take a look around again. We all separate and go our separate ways for a bit before we are asked to come back to the lobby.
I took this time to write a letter to Memory. I don't know when I will be able to see him but I know our next destination is Zetsubou. Unless we are able to take the teleportation device again, it will be around a weeks travel to get there from here if we are quick. I was wanting to get that kind of paper that Hornet got that allowed for the letter to arrive the same day but I went through so many drafts of the letter that I didn't have the time to look for the paper or read anything. I tore out the final draft of the letter, I will keep it in my bag until I find a way to send it.
